Children’s HCBS Program
The Katie Beckett Waiver
The Children’s HCBS Program is a Medicaid waiver program that provides Medicaid benefits to children (birth to age 18) at-risk for hospitalization or institutionalization due to serious, ongoing medical diagnoses, such as, cerebral palsy, respiratory disorder, or transplant need.
Before applying for this program, the child must apply for and be found ineligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits through the Social Security Administration. Generally, family income disqualifies a child from receiving SSI.

Currently, there is a waiting list managed by the State of Colorado for this program. However, once a child becomes active in HCBS, services may include prescribed therapies, medical supplies and equipment. If a child is covered under family medical insurance, HCBS pays any balance of these costs that the family’s policy does not cover.
For more information on how The Department of Health Care Policy and Finance (HCPF) manages the distribution of resources for children on the wait list, you may contact the HCBS Coordinators by calling (303) 252-7199.
