We have started up a new way to hear what our participants want to say with a group called Voices and Choices. This group is made up of a facilitator who has been trained in active listening and group facilitation and representatives from each program area. Voices and Choices will hold quarterly meetings to discuss topics such as program activities, environment and safety, staff support, community involvement, and choice and independence. Facilitators will prioritize accessibility, making sure each member has a way to share their ideas.

The group held its inaugural meeting in March, and Associate Director James Greeley reported that […]

2025-09-16T13:25:50-06:00September 16, 2025|NMCS News|

We need to send out a HUGE thank-you to Ropin’ Rascals & Huwa Enterprises, who sent Taleen and Cindy by last week with an amazing donation to North Metro!

Ropin’ Rascals was created as a small event to raise money for a special needs Cheer team, but it has grown into an amazing non-profit organization. The annual event is an opportunity for individuals with special needs to visit the Huwa family’s beautiful ranch and participate in all types of activities where they get to be cowboys & cowgirls for a day. Events are designed for people with all levels of needs […]

If you work at North Metro, or if you are stopping by, you may have noticed some loud shouts & applause from the back of the building- well, that’s because we have a brand-new golf & sports simulator from Virtual Tee! George was looking into discounted or refurbished equipment for use by our groups, and he reached out to Adam at Virtual Tee. They went above and beyond, donating a new top-of-the-line all sports simulator to our agency. We would like to send out our immense gratitude to Virtual Tee and their partners who made this possible: Uneekor, Inc., TruGolf, […]

Tribute to Randy

Celebrating 29 Years of Service at North Metro Community Services

It is with both gratitude and admiration that we bid farewell to Randy, who retires after an incredible 29 years of dedicated service to North Metro Community Services. Randy’s impact on this organization, and more importantly on the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Colorado, has been immeasurable.

As Executive Director, Randy wasn’t just a leader; he was a mentor, an advocate, and a friend. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life and create a culture of inclusion, respect, and […]

EI Family Corner

2025-02-26T09:56:58-07:00February 26, 2025|NMCS News|

Here’s a little something from one of our amazing Early Intervention families:

As a mom working with students with special needs in 27J, I learned about Early Intervention (EI) through Child Find, which shared our building. Seeing James struggle made me decide to start the EI process. James has made such huge improvements not only in his speech with us, but his learning and growing. He now tries new things, plays with friends, his sister, and communicates his needs clearly. He knows numbers, colors, and letters, sings songs, and shares his excitement for learning every day. He doesn’t hit or kick […]

Lifetime Achievement

2024-08-27T09:10:39-06:00August 27, 2024|NMCS News|

Big congratulations go out to our very own CEO this week! Randy Brodersen was given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Alliance Summit in Breckenridge. Randy’s efforts in working with the Colorado State Legislature was highlighted. The work he has done with our state congress and representatives over many years has paved the way to waitlist reductions and numerous rate increases. These increases have allowed agencies to provide a living wage to employees and service providers and benefited people with IDD statewide.

Digging up History

2024-04-23T14:39:00-06:00April 23, 2024|NMCS News|

Did you know that this year is North Metro’s 60th Anniversary? We have put together a group to help plan a celebration for later this year, and part of that is the duo of Carrie Morris and Tracy Bauknecht, who are our history detectives!

Carrie and Tracy have set up their own office, where they have huge piles of photo albums and boxes full of newspaper clippings and memorabilia. It will be a daunting job to get through 60 years of history to find the highlights. Carrie says that in the end they will have a timeline of major events in […]

Support Services Moves Online

2024-03-12T10:33:16-06:00February 16, 2024|NMCS News|

Support Services has moved to online documentation with Therap! Therap is a full-service electronic record & data-collection program, and it has taken the place of paper files in all the departments of NMCS now. That means when it’s time to enter your notes, you are going to your phone or computer instead of a piece of paper. Now that meant a great deal of training. In October and November, we worked to train over 100 Support Partners on using the new system! It was a big challenge, but our team worked hard and rose to it.  Director Robert Hunter says, […]
